Meet Steffi

What is your name (and social handle)?

Steffi Martin Instagram @mama_needs_a_run31

Tell us about you! Where are you from? What do you do for a living?

Originally from Chardon, OH but currently live in Tallmadge, OH with my husband Matt, two boys, Ollie and Vinny, and two pitties Mella and Lindor. I am a marketing analyst for a beverage manufacturer in downtown Akron. I am slightly obsessed with the color orange, known for my odd laugh, and can eat non-stop.

How did you get into running?

Sounds very cliché but I have been running for as long as I can remember. I would race anyone and everyone growing up. Whenever I was bored as a kid, my dad would tell me to go run outside around the house. In high school, I ran XC (HATED IT), indoor and outdoor track. What can I say, I enjoy running around in circles really fast!

Tell us about your biggest running successes, and/or running goals.

I’m 33 years old and after two kids I am running faster than ever before! Running a half and full marathon is also a huge accomplishment for me. I HATED running long distances growing up. Prior to working with Rachel the longest I ever ran was 10 or so miles which were back in high school. After many years of running, I am starting to believe in my running capability. So my running goal this year is to see how fast I can run but ultimately learn to be uncomfortable. I’ve been used to running short and fast so the pain was over quickly. Learning how to balance that in a longer race is something I’ve never really done. I’m eager/anxious to see how it will go this year.

If you could go on a run with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Britney Spears because I think she would have a TON to say. Plus her music always gets me ready to race.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

Binging a good show or cleaning/organizing stuff. Both things oddly enough bring me joy. lol

Where is your favorite spot to vacation, or somewhere you would love to travel to?

I’d love to travel to Italy or Australia.

Name a book that everyone (running related or not) should read.

When: The scientific secrets of perfect timing by Daniel Pink. Really great takeaways on the perfect time to do things based on each person’s personality/lifestyle.

Favorite food:

I’m a sucker for anything sweet. If I had to choose, probably be cheesecake.

A genie grants you three wishes. What would they be?

A bigger house, cure ALL cancer or wipe it out completely, and have a 3-day weekend all the time.

What is your best advice for fellow runners?

Get out there and start running with people and HAVE FUN!
